RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Research sectors Diversity, evolution and ecology of crustacean copepods living in symbiosis with shallow water marine invertebrates (corals, sponges, echinoderms etc) or in deep-sea hydrothermal vents
Recent Scientific Activities. I have been involved in the study of marine invertebrates since becoming an undergraduate student of Moscow State University. Over the past 25 years, I have published over 70 papers in international journals dealing with the taxonomy, ecology, evolution and comparative morphology of marine invertebrates (mainly microscopic copepod crustaceans) living in different environments and climate zones (such as deep-sea hydrothermal vents, cold seep, abyssal, coral reefs, marine caves, etc.). My work discovered high and poorly investigated diversity of free living and symbiosis microscopic crustaceans living in deep sea hydrothermal vents and in shallow water coral reefs. I have been involved in building of unique collection of symbiotic microcrustaceans living on invertebrates of tropical coral reefs and participated in number of international expeditions dedicated to study of marine biodiversity: the deep sea volcanoes of Atlantic and the shallow waters of the Caribbean Islands (Qúracao and Sint Eustatius), the Adriatic, Caribbean, Coral, Black, Red, The South China, Japan and White Seas, Australia (Heron and Lizard Islands, Ningaloo Reef), French Polynesia, south Maldives (as a scientific leader, 2016), Vietnam, Taiwan, China, India, and Cuba. My research has been conducted in frame of international programs and supported by different institutions and foundations: Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning EU Network of Excellence, Census of Diversity of Abyssal Marine Life; Creefs Australia Field Program, the Moorea Biocode Project, the Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Scientific research and technology Center, KAUST, Ifremer, the Natural History Museums of such countries as Germany (Senkenberg, Wilhelmshaven), France (Paris), Netherland (Leiden), and USA (Washington DC), the Russian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation of Basic Science.
